Why is something so good for us, so hard for us to do?

MeditationMeditation…does a mind, body and spirit good!

If you’re reading this, you probably have more than a passing interest in achieving and maintaining vibrant health. So you probably know that a regular meditation practice can improve your overall health AND happiness. In only minutes a day, the simple act of stillness can help transform your mind, body, and spirit and is as important as nutrition and movement for your overall well-being.

Why is something so good for us, so hard for us to do?

There are many reasons, but two that stand out for me when I work with clients is there is a belief that it’s too hard and it takes too much time. With days full of activities, work, and other things that consume our time, creating space for meditation can be a daunting task. I get it!

Keep it simple!

Like you, I have full days. Some are more challenging than others. On these types of days, I approach my meditation practice the same way I approach making and eating meals…keep it simple but satisfying. Here are two simple, satisfying, and successful ways to meditate in only minutes a day. What they have in common is removing inner and outer chatter and focusing on your breath.

Moving Meditation: Take a walk in nature with no distracting electronics, gadgets, or people. Take full deep breaths and you will quickly notice how your body relaxes, and the “monkey mind” dissipates. Even a short 10 to 15 minute walk will reap tremendous benefits.

Musical Meditation: Avoid overstimulating music and instead listen to classical music. I find taking full deep breaths while listening to classical music helps me to shift my autonomic nervous system from sympathetic (stress, “fight or flight”) to parasympathetic (“rest and digest” and relaxation) immediately.

Practice, practice, practice!

Commit to meditating a minimum of 10 minutes a day and explore other techniques such as guided meditation which will allow you to take an even deeper dive into stilling the mind. Get ready to experience some awesome transformations from the inside out!
